St. Xavier�s & three others receive �College of Excellence Award� from UGC

The University Grants Commission has chosen four Jesuit colleges-St Xavier’s in Mumbai, Loyola in Chennai, St. Joseph’s in Bangalore and St. Xavier’s in Kolkata for College of Excellence Award.

The UGC with this award also grant Rs. 2 crore to be spent over five years for specific purpose. UGC began conferring the Potential for Excellence Award on colleges about a decade ago. Minimum 200 of the 30,000 colleges across the country were chosen for this award, which included generous funding for infrastructure and education upgradation.

St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai had bagged the same award in 2006 and got Rs. 2.5 crore for over eight years. A few months ago, the UGC declared same kind of awards, the College of Excellence Award.

St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai, “The UGC expert committee appreciated our progress made during the period of the Potential for Excellence Award status.”

He further added, “They acknowledged the changed research profile during the last three years, with many international and national publications, an international patent, eight major and 11 minor research projects and four consultancy projects with the industry.”
