IIM students to receive degree rather than diploma from coming session

The students of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) have a new reason to celebrate. The students of post graduate programmes as well as those who will pursue five years Integrated Programme in Management may get a degree instead of diploma or certificate. This proposal will be tabled in Lok Sabha after the election will get over. With new term of government coming into power, the decision will be taken on this most awaited bill.

Presently, IIMs do not offer a degree for the courses, IIMs are autonomous institutes but they don’t have authority to offer degree as any other university. Among 13 IIMs, the only IIM that offers five year IPM is IIM-Indore. Rishikesha T Krishnan, the director of IIM Indore said the proposal is under the process, at government level which will provide the judgement of whether they will be able to award a degree soon or not. And if this proposal will get approval from the government, the IIMs will not be able to offer their degree but also at the IIM Dubai centre as well.

This degree status will also throw opportunity for further studies and open doors for students to apply for government jobs
