DU cut-offs will be soaring high across all courses this year

If you are in your Class XII and planning to get admission in Delhi University for your undergraduate studies, get ready for higher cut-offs and cut throat completion. This is the cut-offs will be all time high across all courses in DU. The pattern in Delhi’s second largest university, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University, where admissions are open is not really encouraging for students. Till now the university has received 34,000 applications for just 250 seats in medicine and the application process will last till 10th April, 2014. For B.Tech programme it has received more than 39,000 applications already.

The Indraprasth University has received nearly 1.2 lakh applications for nearly 20,000 Bachelors and 9,000 Master degrees programme seats. DU has 54,000 seats to offer but more than 60,000 students get admission annually as the university policy allows admission to all candidates who will meet the cut-off and required eligibility criteria for courses. There are total 82,000 seats to offer for students including those in Ambedakar University, Jamia Millia, Delhi Technology University and Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University. As per CBSE’s record this year 2,19,414 students have registered for Class XII board, which is 30,000 more than last year.

The increased board exam candidates, along with present intake strength indicates that cut-offs will be higher this year. DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh suggested changes in the undergraduate admission this year. He said, “We will streamline UG admissions further to help aspirants in filling forms with minimum difficulty. And excess admissions have to stop. Because you (colleges) have a sanctioned strength, you must stay within that strength. We will also ensure the reserved category seats are filled.” This suggests there will be no admission beyond the number of seats available.
