IIM Calcutta accredited by AMBA

Association of MBAs (AMBA) has accredited IIM C’s (Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta) two programmes-its flagship two-year PGP (MBM) programme and the one-year executive PGPEX (MBA) programme. AMBA has given this accreditation for five years.

This prestigious accreditation helps management institutes to attract international students. The main reason for getting such prestigious accreditation is bringing in diversity in gender and academic background in the leading B-Schools. It is also focusing on diversity in culture by looking to attract foreign students.

Global Standard

Presently, foreign students come to Indian B-Schools on exchange programmes for the maximum duration of one or two semesters. Anindya Sen, Dean Academic of IIM-C has said the institute has approached AMBA and US based association to advance Collegiate Schools of Business Accreditations.

The institute had almost 80 foreign students pursuing their programmes as part of global exchange programmes. Getting international accreditation would help in attracting foreign students to the IIM-C campus for its flagship programmes. The accreditation service of UK-based AMBA, was established in 1967. It is international standard for all MBA, DBA and MBM programmes. The authority accredits programmes at more than 200 business schools in more than 70 different countries.

AMBA’s Chief Executive Andrew Main Wilson, said, “AMBA accredits just 1 per cent of the world’s MBA business schools and IIM Calcutta’s initial 5-year accreditation reflects the quality of their MBA programmes, faculty and students.”

This accreditation has increased the value and reputation of IIM-C among international students and put it in the same platform of reputed business schools including ESCP Europe Business School, Ashride Business School (UK). Reims Management School (France), Mannheim Business School (Germany) and Imperial College Business School (UK) among others.

IIM-C Director, said, “We are indeed happy to receive this recognition. It reaffirms our commitment to academic excellence, and marks a significant step towards our journey to be regarded as a global leader in management education.”
