MAT 2013: Know all about MAT to score High

This year the MAT February 2013 will be held on 3rd February, 2013, Sunday. The exam will be pen-paper based, whereas the computer based exam will be held on 9th February, 2013, Saturday. Those who are planning to appear in this exam in the month of February should get ready and brush up their preparation to score high in this exam. There must be many students who will be taking this exam first time and going through exam blues. The exam is not as difficult as CAT, but you can’t rate it less as its score also works as your entry pass for many leading B-Schools of the country.

The exam is divided into five main sections: Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency and Intelligence and Critical Reasoning. The overall difficulty level of last exam was moderate. Each question was awarded equal marking and for each wrong answer ¼ mark will be deducted.

Language Comprehension: Questions were asked on in jumble form. There were some other questions asked based on fill in the banks, comprehension passage, odd man out, and antonyms. Sentence Correction, Foreign language words used in English, Sentence completion, Verbal Reasoning, Syllogisms, Contextual usage, Analogies questions were asked in this section.

Data Interpretation & Reasoning: Graphs can be Column graphs, Pie Chart, Graphs representing Area, Bar Graphs, Line charts, Venn diagram, etc. Critical reasoning, Visual reasoning, Assumption-Premise-Conclusion, identifying valid inferences, Identifying Strong arguments and Weak arguments, definitely true, definitely false kind of statement. Puzzles, Syllogisms, Functions, Family tree - identifying relationship among group of people, Symbol Based problems, Coding and decoding , Sequencing , identifying next number in series, etc.

Mathematical Skills: This section was moderate to tough difficulty level. The more questions were based on Arithmetic and Higher Maths. The topics which were asked in this section were Time & Distance, Boats & Streams, Averages, Mixtures & Alligations, Equations, Time & Work, Pipes & Cisterns, Ratio, Proportion & Variation, Percentages, Profit, Loss, Partnership and Mensuration. The Higher Math area consisted of questions from Trigonometry, Heights & Distance, P & C and Probability.

Intelligence and Critical Reasoning: The Critical Reasoning part had questions from Assertion and Reasons, Cause & Effect and Statement & Conclusion. Analytical Reasoning arrived were Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Distribution, Missing term in the figure, Seating Arrangement and Distribution based questions were asked.

Indian and Global Environment: The questions were based on Current Affairs, Business, Punch line of companies, Top officials of big companies, Major corporate events, Famous award and prizes, World Records, Books and authors, Science, History, Geography, etc.
