New Zealand allowed international students to work while they study

The New Zealand government has recently declared that now international students can work in the country while they pursue their programme in the New Zealand. The New Zealand minister for tertiary education, skill and employment, Steven Joyce, and immigration minister, Michael Woodhouse, announced that International Ph.D and Masters by research students will get unlimited work rights and all tertiary-level international students enrolled in a course of minimum one academic year will be able to work full-time during each scheduled semester break.

All the international students enrolled in an English course of minimum 14 weeks duration at a high-quality provider will be eligible to work up to 20 hours per week. South Asia Ziena Jalil, Education regional director, New Zealand, said, “Today's announcements will allow more Indian students to gain valuable work experience while they study in New Zealand.”

It will help in living cost, if you will work on part-time basis during your course work you can gain work experience that will give them an upper hand over other graduates when they will complete their course. These changes will be come into force from January, 2014.

Rob Steven, Immigration General Manager Service Support, New Zealand, said, “While the global financial crisis hasn't hit New Zealand as hard as other countries, it will still take time to find the right job and students must have enough money to cover their living costs while studying.”

The New Zealand also declared that immigration New Zealand will no longer grant visas to students seeking to enrol at institutions rated category 4 by the New Zealand Qualification Authority.
