Panjab University ranked among the elite group of universities in THE World University Ranking

Times Higher Education’s (THE) World University Ranking list of 2013-14 has been declared and considered as one of the reputed rankings of the world. It is really prestigious for any university to get ranked in this university. It is really tough to get ranked in this list of elite group and Panjab University is the highest ranked Indian Institution clubbed in the group of universities ranked between 226-250 ranks.

As per THE, this is India’s best performance till now with five institutions making it to the top 400. The other Indian institutions feature in the list are four Indian Institute of Technology from Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Roorkee, all ranked among the group of institutions between 351-400.

In this list, California Institute of Technology managed to sustain its place at the top of the ranking for the third year in a row, however Harvard University secured the second place, a position shared with the UK’s University of Oxford. Stanford University goes down from second to fourth place.

Of the five Indian Institutions in top 400, three are new entrants which include Panjab University, IIT-Delhi and IIT-Kanpur. This year, IIT-Kharagpur also slip from its place of 226-250 group into the 351-400 group and IIT-Roorkee, which remains in the 351-400 group.

The World University Ranking editor, Phil Baty, said, “These results should be encouraging for India. While no Indian institution makes the top 200, one player new to the rankings, Panjab University, is close in the 226-250 group. Moreover, India now has five representatives in the top 400 - a sign of growing commitment to the global rankings.”
