IIM-L launches new course on sustainable management
Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIM-L) has started a post-graduate programme in sustainable management (PGP-SM). This is two-year full residential programme would in initial phase offer just 45 seats and the classes would be held at IIM-L Noida and Delhi, NCR regions.
IIM-Lucknow in a statement, said, “Most management institutes in India are criticised for not making much contribution in the field of business sustainability and associated public policy processes. IIM Lucknow, in 2011-2012, became the first IIM to establish a dedicated centre of excellence for business sustainability. Another step has been taken in this direction with the launch of a PGP-SM.”
Now people are paying more attention to environmental degradation, global warming, climate change social-economic implications of ever increasing corporate power, nation states are forcing business to mould their business strategies to align sustainable development objective of the country as well as of the globe.
With admission to be based on CAT scores, PGP-SM would concentrate more on environmental, social and economic sustainability aspects, change management preparation, critical perspective on policy and institutions, cross sector collaborations and systemic linkages among environmental, social and economic issues.
IIM-L stated, “Today's managers need to understand and appreciate the expectations of all stakeholders and behave in a socially responsible manner. Concepts like corporate social responsibility, corporate citizenship, corporate social opportunity ad stakeholder management are gaining prominence in the parlance of management practices.”
