2.4 Lakh candidates have registered for CAT 2013
The registration process for CAT 2013 will get over today and application for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 for admission to premier Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and other B-Schools of the country which accept CAT score to enrol students. This year, lesser number of students has registered for the exam. Nearly, two lakh candidates applied till a day before the CAT’s registration window closes on 26th September, 2013. Last year 2.14 lakh candidates had registered for the exam.
CAT 2013 is being conducted by IIM Indore. The sale of online and traditional vouchers ended on 24th September, 2013. As per a statement of Rohit Kapoor, CAT 2013 convener, 1.16 lakh candidates have bought the online voucher and almost 86,000 candidates purchased the manual vouchers. Total numbers of candidates have reached to somewhere around 2 lakh on the last day of registration. This is the first time when online process for sale of voucher was started. This recent figures indicates that aspirants prefer to buy voucher rather than the conventional way of buying vouchers.
Except last year, the CAT applications in the past year have been decreasing. In 2009, 2.41 lakh candidates applied for the CAT. This number went down to 2.04 lakh in 2010. In 2011, 2.05 lakh candidates have been applied followed by 2.14 last year. In present year, 115 more seats have been added and making the total number of seats to 3,335 seats. Adding the other B-School who take up CAT score, there are around 5,000 seats. He further added, “With less than 10,000 seats across the B-schools that use CAT score, 2 lakh is still a huge number.” CAT will be held for 20 days- from 16th October to 11th November, 2013 in 40 different cities across the country.
