CBSE has decided to make changes in assessment pattern of Classes IX and X

CBSE exam committee and the board have decided to bring about changes in the assessment pattern for classes IX and X. As per the recent circular passed last week which made it clear that from now, students from classes IX and X will have to mandatorily appear for the two summative assessments (SA) and pass with a certain percentage of marks.

Deepshikha Srivastave, Principal of Ramjhans Vidyalya, said, “Circular makes it clear that if a child could not appear for any one SA, the school should hold another exam for him/her.” She further added that this new system will make students more serious towards their exams.

As per the rules, students from class IX and X will appear in for four formative assessments (FA) and two SA exams. The FA will be conducted by the schools, but question paper for the two SA exams will be sent by the board. Besides, Class IX papers will be evaluated in schools and Class X papers will be evaluated by the board. The curricular also stated that only those students who have participated in sports at the national/international level will be exempted from appearing for any one of the SA exams, provided that the students seeks permission in advance.

Apart from this, all students are required to score minimum 25% marks in both SA exams, in order to pass. This means that students will have to score at least 15 out of 60 marks and a total of 33% in each of five subjects. Seema Maindiratta principal of DAV School in Kharaghar, said, “CBSE is student-friendly and the aim of including FA and SA is to ensure that each and every child scores well and is promotedto plus-two.” This rule will be effective for Class IX students from the present academic session, whereas it will be implemented for Class X students from next academic session.
