Over 40% seats may remain vacant

Now it is just five days left for submitting applications to Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Computer Administration (MCA) end, the admission committee is worried about that more than 40% of the total seats 14,911 seats in the two courses may remain vacant.

Official of the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) said that till now just 4200 forms have been sold and only 3,800 filled-up forms received. The last date for receiving duly filled application form is 7th July, 2013.

Of the 14,911 seats available, 5153 are MCA seats and 9,754 are for MBA. ACPC officials said that last year, more than 3,800 seats were vacant. All the institute authorities are worried that this year the number of vacant seats may increase and more than 40% seats may find no takers. Lack of jobs opportunities are keeping students away from enrolling into these programmes.

Last month, the education department had announced the rules for admission to first year MBA and MCA courses in the state. The admission rules stated that if any unaided college or institution requests to fill up management quota seats (up to 5% of the sanctioned intake) with students from outside the state, such seats shall be filled by the ACPC on the basis of CMAT. The official also informed that if the seats remain vacant even after counselling programmes, the same shall be filled as vacant seats by the college or institution.
