Fake educational institutes will face consequences & maximum prison of 1 year
Maharashtra state cabinet has recently cleared a draft ordinance to curb the menace created by the illegal educational institutions. The draft ordinance has been approved by the state cabinet to control the mushrooming growth of unauthorised illegal educational institutes.
According to the proposed ordinance, the owner, management and proprietors of such institutions will face maximum prison term of one year and could be fined anything between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh. Publishing and issuing fake advertisements will also attract a fine ranging from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh under this proposed law.
A few year ago, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had this into the notice of the state government that there were nearly 80 bogus educational institutions in the state.
A senior official said, “All the educational institutions have been identified. Once the ordinance comes into force, we will take action against the institutions as per the provisions of law.” he further added, “The cabinet has approved the proposal. We are in the process of submitting the ordinance to the governor for approval. Once the proposal is accepted, it will come into force on the same day.”
Raj Tope, Higher and Technical Education Minister, said the proposed Maharashtra Prevention of Unauthorised and Illegal Education Institutions Ordinance has been introduced to curb the mushrooming of illegal educational institutions which are playing with the future of innocent students.
The official said in the recent past, the issue of fake educational institutions cheating hundreds of students was discussed in both the housed of the state legislature and the government had assured that a comprehensive law will be implemented to control this situation. Under this proposed law educational institutions in the field of higher education and technical education, agriculture, dairy development, medical education, veterinary science and all courses will be covered.
