DU cut-offs likely to increase marginal this year

The DU aspirants now has a reason to smile as this year Delhi University is not going to do any major changes in the cut-offs for commerce, English and economics courses. These are few subjects which are high gainers in the seat re-appropriation process, which means that the number of seats available in these courses has increase substantially.

Besides, Delhi University official said cut-offs would not dip much due to 10% increase in the number of high scorers at class XIIth level. On the other side, the cut-offs for B.Tech courses are likely to see a significant increase.

Under the new four-year-undergraduate programme, DU will be going to do away with some of its courses such as BA, B.Sc. and B.com and disburse the seats to other bachelor programmes. These courses collectively offer 15,000 seats of the total 54,000 seats across colleges.

As per the updated seat strength, commerce has the maximum intake, followed by English, economics and mathematics. The commerce intake has been increase to 12,455 from 6,500 in 2012, however the English intake will be 4,375 this year against 3,500 last year. This year the total number of seats in economics will increase around 1,200 seats to 4,302 this year. The mathematics intake will be 3, 250.

Dean of student's welfare, J M Khurana said, "These subjects got the maximum of the re-appropriated seats because the majority of the BA seats were distributed among economics, English and political science, while the BCom programme's 6,000 odd seats went to the commerce programme. Similarly the biggest gainers because of the discontinuation of BSc programme are physics and chemistry."

P C Jain, SRCC College, said, While it is unlikely that the cutoffs will dip anywhere, it is also a fact that there is hardly much scope for any significant increase as well.

DU colleges will start declaring the cut-offs by the end of this month with first cut-off to be declared on 27th June, 2013.
