Rhodes scholarship open for Indian students to study at Oxford University

Rhodes scholarships are now open for Indian aspirants for the upcoming session of 2014. The scholarship is for post graduate programme that support outstanding all-round student, to enable two to three years of study at the University of Oxford.

The Rhodes scholarships aspire to create ‘leader for the world’s future and are achievement based award. This scholarship is available for students with proven intellectual and academic attainment of high standard who show exceptional character, leadership, achievement in extra-curricular activities and a commitment to services in the public good. Since Independence, 197 students have received Rhodes Scholarships. This list includes various prominent personalities such as Olympain Ranjit Bhatia, playwright Girish Karnad and economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

Every year, five Indian students get selected for this scholarship on the basis of their achievements and commitment to service to join 78 other Rhodes scholars across the world at the University of Oxford.

Applications for the upcoming session of 2014 are open for all Indian aspirants. Candidates under the age of 19 and 25 as of on 1st October, 2014 who have received at least one first class degree from Indian university are eligible for this. Students in their final year of college with exceptional academic background may also apply. The last date to apply for the scholarship is 31st July, 2013.

The Rhodes Scholarship include all university and college fees for two to three years, an annual stipend of around £13,000, health insurance and travel expenses to the University of Oxford before the start of the programme and a return ticket following the course of study.

Those who want apply for the Rhodes Scholarships for India 2014, aspirants must submit their online application, which include submission of academic transcripts, the names of six references, etc., describing the proposed course of study at the Oxford university. Outstanding applicants will be shortlisted for regional and final interviews with a panel.
