St. Stephen�s first admission day kick starts with 2,300 registrations

The admission season in Delhi University on Saturday, with St. Stephen’s College started. The college started application process for various undergraduate courses under the new four –year format. More than 2,300 students have registered themselves for admission to various courses at St. Stephen’s college. Of the applicants who paid online, the maximum number of forms were filled for English (120), followed by economics (118) with maths and history coming in third and fourth with 53 and 51 applications respectively.

The application process for other Delhi University colleges is expected to start from 5th June, 2013. Students looking for getting admission at St. Stephen’s College will have to fill the application form online. Karen Gabriel, college spokesperson, said, "While 2,300 people registered themselves, around 800 students have filled the application form, bringing the total figure to over 3,000."

The college offers eight subjects as main disciplines under the four year format-economics, English, history, philosophy, Sanskrit, mathematics, chemistry and physics. College website said, "The students have to study Urdu in the first semester as one of the foundation courses in Modern Indian Language and from the second year onwards, they have to study Urdu as discipline two. St Stephen's College offers Urdu and Persian as Discipline II subjects."

The admission process at St. Stephen’s College, and Jesus & Mary College is a bit different from other DU colleges. For UG courses, 85 per cent weightage will be given to student’s Class XII marks, besides, 15% weightage will be given to interview. The website also mentions, "Admission is given on the basis of the candidate's academic record and performance at the interview (that is, composite merit)."
