NET holders not happy with varsity order

The National Eligibility Test is accepted across the country as basic qualification for recruitment of teachers in colleges. But, NET-qualified candidates who have applied in the aided college affiliated to Calicut University are left in lurch, university order that values Ph.D papers and marks in the qualifying examination more than the National-Eligibility-Test conducted by the University Grants Commission.

According to the new changed weightage scheme, academic qualification gets 40 marks, however NET alone will get 0 marks. Besides, combined with M.Phil or Ph.D, the NET holder gets 5 to 10 marks respectively. Now, the students are confused either to pursue NET or Ph.D.

As per the new order candidates having publication, presentations and research projects to his/her account will get more weightage compared to those who have only cleared NET. The candidates, who will meet all the desired requirements, will be benefited and their chances of selection will increase.

But UGC mandate said, the Ph.D holders shall be considered for appointment only if NET qualified candidates are absent, or they could be given equal chance.
