IIT Advanced more tough & challenging

The JEE Advanced entrance test for getting admission in prestigious IITs was conducted on 2nd June, 2013 at various centres across the county. This is the first-ever Joint Entrance Examination being held in the advanced format. In this exam, 1.26 lakh students have appeared in 95 different cities.

The JEE Advanced exam was divided into papers I and II. The questions asked in the subjects physics, mathematics and chemistry and each paper carried 180 marks.

Those who will successfully clear this exam will get chance to get entry into the top 15 IITs which offer just 10,000 seats to students. The National Institutes of Technology, Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad and few other centrally-funded technical institutions enrol the students on merit basis.

Most of the students said that the mathematics part of Paper 1 was difficult compared to other sections. S.G. Aditya Bhat, a student from Hubli, said, "The mathematics paper was difficult in comparison to physics and chemistry. I have been preparing for this exam for the last two years, attending coaching classes and solving papers regularly. The advanced paper has questions that are more challenging in comparison to the main paper."

Some students also expressed disappointment in their inability to complete the paper. Another student who have attempted the paper said, "The paper was lengthy and I was unable to finish it. I have performed well in physics and chemistry. However, mathematics was difficult."

Many students said that the paper was high on negative marking, taking them by surprise. An aspirant, who is looking forward to get admission in IIT Chennai, said he was shocked to see that all the questions had negative marking, which was the biggest surprise for all the students. He said, "Also, I felt that most questions had multiple answers. So, if you missed out even one, your chances of scoring high are less. One really had to focus and make the right choices. Overall, both the papers have been moderately easy."

Some students also said that the paper was tricky compared to those of the previous year's, while others felt that it was also very lengthy.
