JEE 2014 will be subjective, but not fully descriptive

IIT-Bombay has proposed a new pattern for JEE Advance to get admission in IITs in next academic year 2014. According to the proposed pattern, JEE Advanced will not have multiple choice questions, besides, it will be subjective, but aspirants will not required to write long answers.

Students will be asked to solve problems and write answers only, there will not be any need to give a step-wise solutions to each question asked. As per the new format, even for descriptive answers too question will not be asked in the form of ‘fill in the blanks’ or ‘complete the following answers’.

IIT-B director Devang Khakhar said, "The proposed format is somewhere between the two formats. Students will not have to write long, descriptive answers. They will have to get answers on their own as there will be no options." The news format of JEE will test their understanding level of subject. The proposal, yet have not received any approval from senates of other IITs. It will be implements once it will get approval from other IITs at the joint admission board meeting.

This year, admission to the most prestigious IITs will be given on the basis of two-tier exam system, with JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. Both the tests are based on multiple-choice questions. However, IITs are seeking a change in format for this year’s JEE Advanced too, the decision on the two-tier system was declared late and would have given less time to students to prepare for both the tests. This proposed change in the format will be introduced next year. In the multiple choice questions, it is really difficult to judge the subjective understanding of students.
