Top 10 Institutes in India Ranking released by Times Higher Education

Times Higher Education magazine recently published a World Reputation Ranking for 2013, for the first time a list of Top-10 Indian institutes. In this reputed ranking of THE, Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore has been ranked at first position. In this list, at second place IIT-Bombay is ranked, followed by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), IIT Kanpur and IIT-Delhi. In this list, University of Delhi grabbed the sixth position, the first full-fledged university in this list. The ranking is based on subjective, but expert judgement.

Phil Baty, Editor, THE Ranking, stating about the reason behind publishing such specific ranking said, “The world of higher education is interested in the country's development, and its huge potential, and there is a strong demand from within India for data, which helps people to map the rapidly changing higher education landscape.

In this ranking survey, IIT Madras captured the 7th position followed by IIT Kharagpur, Aligarh Muslim University at 9th place and University of Hyderabad at 10th position. Besides, in the list of “Top 100 World Reputation Ranking 2013” not even a single university managed to get a position in the list. In this World Ranking, Harvard University tops the list with first place, which is followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, University of Oxford at fourth position. In this ranking University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University at 5th, 7th and 7th position respectively.

THE also mentioned if it would have published a list of more than 100 universities than IISc-Bangalore would be at 130th place, IIT-Bombay in 192nd position and all other Indian Institutions were ranked outside the global top 200 list.
