XIMB placement beats downturn blues with growth in average salary

XIMB has recently completed its placements for its flagship Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programme in management. It has managed to register just 3.41 percent growth in average salary offered compared to last year’s salary. In its 2011-2013 batch it has total 179 students.

This is the average annual salary offered to students is Rs. 11.81 lakh, which is a bit high from last year’s 11.42 lakh for batch 2010-12. XIMB, placement coordinator, Savita Mohanty said, “It has been a tough year due to the economic slowdown. We have focused more on the job profiles. We are also maintaining a wait and watch policy in the coming year as it is going to be an election year.”

In this placement process more than 130 companies participated. Three candidates from PGDM and one form PGDM (Rural Management) grabbed offers from international companies. South African based IT firm IN2IT offered the highest pay package of $70000 per annum in international job category. The highest domestic salary was Rs. 17.25 lakh a year for the PGDM students.

This year too, maximum number of students opted roles in accounting with 46% of total placements. However, 22% students accepted jobs in marketing sector, 21% grabbed jobs in financial services and nearly 11% chose jobs in general management, strategy and operational related jobs.

Some of the big companies which participated in the placements were Cognizant Business Consulting, Deloitte, Wipro, Polaris, Mahindra and Mahindra, Larsen and Turbo, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services.

All the 59 students of first batch of PGDM (HRM) are placed with an average annual salary of Rs. 9.4 lakh per annum. Some of the top recruiters which hired the students from PGDM (HRM) were Tata Corp HR, Aditya Birla HR leadership programme, Amrop, ITC Infotech etc.
