AICTE will no longer has the authority of affiliating Engineering Colleges

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has no longer authority of affiliating all the Engineering Colleges across the country. Now, after implementing this new rule the state technical universities will get the authority to approve and affiliate engineering colleges which come under their territory in place of AICTE. This information has been revealed by the vice-chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), DR. H Devaraj.

He was addressing the Indian Science and Engineering Fair, which was organised by the Agni College of Technology jointly with Science Society of India (SSI). He further added that engineering colleges no more required to take AICTE permission for renewal of the affiliation each year.

In the meeting, the UGC approved a regulation under which all the powers of quality control in technical education, which also include engineering, management and pharmacy will be handed to the university only.

Now, the universities will have to meet few parameters such as infrastructure, faculty strength, admission process, lab and library facilities, etc., of the technical colleges which are seeking approval to run technical courses. Previously, the AICTE used to grant approval to engineering and management courses of various institutes each year to allow them to enrol students for the next academic session.
