IIM-Calcutta in brand makeover mode to meet changing global scenario

The country’s oldest and one of the top-notch IIM of the country Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta is making all required changes to move forward and brand makeover of itself to prepare professionals for the changing global management scenario.

The 100-odd faculty members of the premier institute will meet and decide how to make meaningful changes to uplift its brand. As per the sources the focus is on tech-enabled education, revising the curriculum, liaison and branding of IIM-C. This may prove the most ambitious and desired revamp of the IIM-C as an institute in last 52 years. Tech-enabled education involves a broader view-which will include giving students tablets which will be loaded with curriculum and study materials. The institute will also work on offering classes via internet and satellite to reach more students in the shortest time.

IIM-C director Saibal Chattopadhyay, said, “This will help us start a large number of executive programmes where professionals can sit in the comfort of their offices or homes and study from tablets and lectures that reach them via satellite.”

In the meeting faculty members will also discuss that why IIM-Ahmedabad and IIM-Bangalore are ranked above IIM-C. However, IIM-C is ranked among the best finance MBA institutes of the country, besides IIM-A and IIM-B have more visibility and advantage among international companies in job and salaries. A senior teacher said, “While finance will be the mainstay of our teaching-learning, we need to identify areas where we need to improve. The last time our curriculum was revised was in 2007. It's high time that we update it.” The institute is likely to participate in international ranking initiatives to help to improve its ranking itself.
