IIM-B PGP present batch dominated by engineering students
In present PGP batch of IIM-B, more engineers have enrolled for the flagship programme with almost 90% of them are from engineering background. There are total 404 candidates enrolled in the programme into the PGP 2013-15 batch, out of them 368 aspiring candidates are from engineering background. In the previous batch (2012-14), there were 88 per cent engineers.
On the other side, only four candidates who have managed to secure a seat in this prestigious IIM are from management background. There are 21 commerce graduates, followed by eight science graduates and one is from overseas, who has completed a degree in economics and international relations.
Collectively, there are six overseas candidates enrolled in present batch. Prof M Jayadev, Chairman, Admissions and Financial Aid, IIM-B, released the statistics at the inaugural of the new batch of PGP students.
The ratio of female candidates in the PGP class this year is just 26.73%, a very marginal increase from the previous batch that has just 26% females. Whereas the outgoing batch of 2011-13 has 26.25% female candidates. Of the total 404 candidates in this batch just 108 are female candidates.
The average male age is 26.5 years and 25 years for females. A majority of the candidates are in the age group of 20-24 years, according to statistics.
