To get admission in IIT & ISC you need to score at least 83.8%
ISC students need to score minimum 83.8% in their board exam to be eligible for an IIT seat. But, students need to clear both the exams Main and Advanced level of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) to secure a seat in the leading engineering colleges of the country. The students who will clear both the exams will have to be in the list of top 20 percentile of their respective board.
With the Council of Indian School Certification Examination (CISCE) releasing the rather higher cut-off marks for being ranked among the top 20 percentile to be eligible for IITs, many students who have scored 83.8%, may not become part of the race, even though they clear JEE (Advanced). The ISC cut-off is higher than that of CBSE and the state board as its school have done better than that the other two. CBSE has pegged the cut-off for IIT aspirants at 78.2% and the state board at 64.3%. The council’s circular mentioned that the percentile of successful candidates who passed in English and other best for subjects in the 2013 exam are calculated category-wise. In the open category, the cut-off is 419/500, for CBSE it is 397 and SC 378 and ST 351.
Praveen Tyagi, MD of IITian Pace institute, said, "Cut-off may have come as a disappointment for students who have scored in 70s and less than 83.8%. The high cut-offs could prove to be a disadvantage for borderline students."
