DU will declare cut-off list for 6 categories this year

Delhi University admission registration process will kick off soon in the month of June. Aspirants are very anxious about their Class XIIth results as it is yet not announced and the cut-offs for DU colleges. DU cut-offs always roars high and became talk of the town. Last year, 100% cut-off from one of the DU colleges gave jolts to many students and raised the eyebrows of educationists. Besides, the high cut-offs most of the top notch colleges declare only two or three cut-offs.

If you want to get some idea about the expected cut-offs for this year previous year’s cut-off list will help you out in evaluating the expected cut-offs better. However, this year, colleges will be issuing six separate cut-off lists each for different groups-general category, other backward class, schedule caste/schedule tribes (SC/ST) and three groups in the persons with physical disability category. This is the first time when colleges will be issuing separate cut-off list for last two categories.

Minoti Chatterjee, principal Kamla Nehru College, said, “The principals know the history of the college, the background and kind of students they can expect. There is no point going sky-high in the first list and dropping cutoffs for the second. There may be a slight increase in the first cutoff list but first-lists are always high. We go by past experiences.” Hindu College principal, Pradyuman Kumar, said, “ The teacher in-charge studies the data for the last three-four years and decides." He adds that this year's situation — all applications to all colleges — is not a problem in North Campus as everyone applies there anyway. He adds that colleges will be cautious to prevent over-admission but that caution will be exercised through "additional criteria" rather than an increased cutoff.

For SC/ST/PWD category admissions there is no past history and date available to go by but college authorities think they can manage by reducing cut-offs by a few percentage from general-category level. PC Jain, principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce, said they are into the process of finalizing the how admission at their college will be organised. He said, "We'll have category-wise counter but we can't write the name of the categories. We'll create a number or alphabet-system internally."
