JEE 2013 race begins: 14 lakh candidates will attempt JEE Main

The first Joint Engineering Entrance Examination Main, which scrapped the AIEEE will be conducted on 7th April, 2013. This year, more than 14 lakh aspiring engineering and architecture candidates have registered for offline and online examination.

Last year, just 11.5 lakh candidates appeared in this JEE entrance exam. JEE advanced will only be taken by those candidates who will successfully clear the JEE Main only top 1.5 lakh eligible candidates will attempt JEE advanced exam, which is the entrance exam for the admission to the Indian Institute of Technology.

The pen-paper based examination will be held on 7th April, 2013, whereas the computer based test will be held on 9th, 22nd and 23rd April, 2013 at various test locations across the country. The pattern of the JEE Main will be objective type and the duration of the paper will be three hours. The questions in the paper will be based on physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Apart for this, there are many other changes have been introduced in the exam this year. The JEE (Main) is conducted for B.E/B.Tech courses offered at various IIITs, NITs and other Central Government funded technical institutes. But, JEE (Main) merit list will give 40% weightage to Class XII or other qualifying examination and remaining 60% weightage will be give to performance in the JEE main examination.

Another significant change is only top 1.5 lakh candidates will be able to appear in JEE Advanced, which will be conducted for IITs and has replaced the most sought after IIT-JEE entrance exam. As per the experts view the difficulty level in this exam is likely to be lower and students need to be more careful while attempting the paper.
